WHO’s Tedros Ignoring the DRC: An Unforgivable Oversight

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has long been a hotspot for deadly outbreaks, from Ebola to measles, but the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recent neglect of this region under the leadership of Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is both alarming and unforgivable. Tedros, who has consistently advocated for global health equity, seems to have overlooked the very principles he once championed. The DRC has endured a relentless series of health crises, exacerbated by political instability and inadequate infrastructure. Despite this, the WHO’s focus appears to have shifted elsewhere, leaving millions vulnerable. Tedros’ failure to prioritize the DRC not only undermines WHO’s mission but also disregards the basic tenet of public health: prevention is better than cure.
