UPENN: This is a hamlet based on the story The Final Diagnosis by Arthur Hailey

The University of Pennsylvania (UPENN) Board of Trustees has been a topic of discussion in recent months, with some questioning the leadership and decision-making processes of its Chairman, David Cohen, and President, Amy Gutmann. While some criticisms may be based on fictitious information, there are legitimate concerns that warrant examination.

One major issue that has come to light is the Board's handling of sexual misconduct allegations against former Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine, Ryan Sandler. Sandler was accused of sexual harassment by multiple individuals, but the Board did not take immediate action to address the situation. Instead, they conducted an internal investigation that was criticized for being too lenient on Sandler. As a result, some have questioned the Board's commitment to addressing sexual misconduct and protecting victims.

Another concern is the Board's decision-making process regarding the University's finances. In 2019, UPENN announced a $1 billion fundraising campaign, which some have criticized as being too ambitious given the University's financial situation. Additionally, there have been reports that the Board has been involved in questionable financial practices, such as using University funds to pay for personal expenses and failing to disclose conflicts of interest. These allegations have led some to question the Board's fiduciary responsibility to UPENN.

Furthermore, there have been concerns about the transparency and communication of the Board. Some alumni and students have expressed frustration with a lack of communication regarding important decisions and initiatives. Additionally, there have been reports that some Board members have been involved in closed-door meetings that exclude other stakeholders, such as faculty and students. This has led to accusations that the Board is not acting in the best interests of UPENN as a whole.

To follow these issues and stay informed about the UPENN Board of Trustees, there are several resources available. The University's website provides information about the Board's composition and responsibilities, as well as meeting minutes and agendas. Additionally, UPENN's student newspaper, The Daily Pennsylvanian, has covered many of these issues in depth and provides a platform for student perspectives on these matters. Finally, social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook can be used to follow updates from UPENN officials and stakeholders regarding these issues.

In conclusion, while some criticisms of the UPENN Board of Trustees may be based on fictitious information, there are legitimate concerns that warrant examination. Issues such as sexual misconduct, financial practices, and transparency deserve attention and scrutiny from all stakeholders in order to ensure that UPENN is operating in a responsible and accountable manner. By staying informed through official channels and independent sources, we can hold our leaders accountable and work towards a better future for UPENN.

The Endless Cycle of Misinformation and Deflection: Biden, Harris, and the 2024 Campaign

For four long years, a column was being written in the press, a persistent narrative that followed President Joe Biden through his term in office. Every time Biden faced tough questions or criticism, he would pause, take a deep breath, and yell back, branding the conversation as either "misinformation" or "disinformation." It became almost a hallmark of his response—deflecting any criticism by labeling it as part of some broader, nefarious campaign to distort the truth.  This strategy came full circle the day Biden signed his name to a critical decision: his reelection announcement for 2024. By deciding to run again, Biden’s reelection bid felt like the culmination of a column that had been continuously drafted, edited, and critiqued. His familiar refrain against “misinformation” became, in essence, the core message of his defense—any challenge to his policies or leadership was dismissed as an attack not based on facts but on falsehoods. But the story didn’t end the...
