Biden and Harris: A Leadership Defined by Avoidance and Accountability Gaps


President Biden appears to anticipate being held accountable for the devastation caused by Helene, a sentiment that seems to weigh heavily on him. While writing the post "Unquestionably Defeated: The Challenges of President Joe Biden's Leadership," I realized that Biden himself likely shares the same sense of foreboding. His responses to pressing questions suggest that he is well aware of the scrutiny looming over him.

The same can be said for Vice President Kamala Harris. She often avoids standing alone before the press, perhaps fearing that being solitary would invite embarrassing questions. The Democratic leadership seems unable to fully grasp the depth of their responsibility. Their collective failure to lead with accountability has become glaring. 

Biden and Harris have had ample opportunities to fulfill the trust placed in them, but instead, they seem to have focused on maintaining their position, sharing the spotlight with former President Trump rather than leading the nation that trusted them. Their leadership has been marked by crises, both at home and abroad, leaving lasting damage.

Fortunately, brave individuals and organizations have stepped up to fill the void created by this administration's missteps, preventing further harm. When Biden and Harris leave office, they won’t leave a legacy of progress, but rather one of gaps and pitfalls for their successors to navigate.
